With the most exciting World Series matchup in recent history about to get underway tonight, it’s time to look at the futures odds for World Series MVP. We’ll take a look at multiple different players from both sides, their odds to win the award as well as an explanation as to why they may have a better chance of winning than others.
New York Yankees World Series MVP Picks
Aaron Judge (+400)
The future American League MVP for the second time is the easiest option to take from the Yankee lineup. He is a known Dodger killer with a career slashline against this pitching staff of .346/.414/.615 for a 1.029 OPS. While it’s in a smaller sample size of at bats, he has great numbers against a good deal of Dodgers pitchers.
Giancarlo Stanton (+800)
Growing up just a short drive away from Los Angeles, Giancarlo Stanton has great value to be named World Series MVP after his massive ALCS that gave him MVP of that series. In his career Stanton’s hit for a .343 batting average and a 1.171 OPS. He’s slugged three home runs and tallied nine RBI against the Dodgers in his career, and if he produces a fraction of this has a great chance of winning Series MVP.
Anthony Rizzo (+10000)
One longshot player who has solid career numbers against this Dodgers pitching staff is first baseman Anthony Rizzo. This would make an incredibly fun narrative with Rizzo possibly earning his second World Series ring with the Yankees. He hits .305 against this Dodgers pitching staff, with a 1.058 OPS. He’s hit five home runs in 59 total at bats, and a couple big hits like that could earn him the honor of Series MVP.
Los Angeles Dodgers World Series MVP Picks
Shohei Ohtani (+200)
It would be wrong to leave Ohtani off of this list even though there’s the least amount of value going for him to take Series MVP. Ohtani is a career .200 hitter against this Yankees pitching staff, but has maintained a solid OPS of .853. Shohei was very good to end the NLCS, ending both final two games with two hits, while recording six runs scored in the final three games of the pennant clinching series.
Enrique Hernandez (+3000)
October has been very kind to Enrique Hernandez, who sits behind only Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Max Muncy on the team’s postseason OPS leaderboard. Against this Yankees pitching staff, Hernandez has a .929 OPS with five home runs in 68 at bats. He’s come up big for the Dodgers all postseason, and it shouldn’t be any different in the World Series.
Gavin Lux (+13000)
This is a longshot but Lux in a small sample size of at bats has great numbers against this Yankees pitching staff. In 12 at bats, Lux has hit for a slashline of .417/.462/.917 for a 1.378 OPS. What’s interesting to note about those stats is some of the best production has come against Yankee relievers Clay Holmes and Luke Weaver.
With these relievers being heavily utilized by the Yankees, Lux should have opportunities in this series to come up late in the game against them. If he can deliver big hits in those spots then he can certainly make a case for World Series MVP.
