Preview of the Florida Cup

Miami Gardens, FL.- “They don’t like us, we don’t like them. Nothing else to say on the matter. “

Tomorrow night, (October 26) the #6 University of Miami hosts Florida State University for the Hurricanes and Seminoles’ annual Florida Cup Rivalry game. This one’s for all the marbles.

Despite being on opposite sides of the college football spectrum this year, expect an amazing game of football. As every rivalry game goes, tensions will flare, words will be said and it’ll make for some damn good football.

The visiting Florida State Seminoles have been absolutely atrocious to start the season. 1-6 through the opening stretch of the year, and regardless of who they shovel out at QB, he’s not getting the job done. The Seminoles’ offensive struggles are apparent, as they’ve averaged 15.3 points per game, which ranks them 133/134 across college football. The only team statistically worse than FSU’s offense: Houston (13.7 PPG). FSU’s averaging around 200 yards of passing offense per game, but once again fall into the bottom of the CFB barrel with 73 rushing yards per game(130/134). This one dimensional offensive attack is a clear catalyst for the miseries of the Noles.

On the other side of the coin, Miami’s entering this game as the 7-0, #6 team in the country. The Hurricanes have been on fire all season, averaging 48 points per game (2nd FBS), alongside 388 passing yards per game (1st FBS), and 188 yards on the ground per night. Miami’s star wide receiver quartet consisting of: Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, Isaiah Horton and Sam Brown II have dominated the opening part of the season. Unfortunately for opposing defensive coordinators, you simply CANNOT gameplan against this offense, as every pass catcher has WR1 potential.

Honestly speaking, this game should be a blowout. However, when a rivalry this deep runs its course, both teams will be on their absolute best timing. Despite their terrible start to the season, Florida State is going to rise to the occasion and give the Hurricanes some trouble, however, we all know that Miami’s fine with a little bit of adversity.
