Martin Necas scored and added an assist to pace the visiting Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
Seth Jarvis, Jack Roslovic and Eric Robinson also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won consecutive games and four of five outings. Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov made 29 saves and also collected an assist.
Jake Bean and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for the Flames, who lost in regulation for the first time this season. Dan Vladar stopped 39 shots and kept his team in the game to the end despite Carolina holding the bulk of the play through the first two periods.
Jarvis opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 12:29 of the first period. Jarvis found a soft spot in the coverage near the bottom of the left circle and lifted a quick shot for his second goal of the season.
Roslovic doubled the lead 41 seconds into the second period, coming when he pounced on a rebound at the doorstep.
Then Necas extended the lead to 3-0 with his 100th career tally, at 1:59 of the middle frame. With the screen set in front of the net, Necas ripped a perfect shot from the top of the left circle.
Bean, a former Hurricanes defenseman, put the Flames on the board at 13:01 of the second period with his first goal for his new team. With traffic in front of the net, Bean stepped in from his point position and sent a top-shelf effort.
Huberdeau’s rebound goal with 6:55 remaining made it a one-goal game.
But after the Flames failed to convert during a couple of third-period power plays, Robinson iced the clash with an empty-net goal with 77 seconds left.
