The New York Knicks are set to waive sharp-shooter Landry Shamet in advance of the season opener Tuesday against the Boston Celtics as the guard deals with a dislocated shoulder, ESPN reported.
By waiving Shamet before the start of the season, the Knicks will only owe him $15,000 by the terms of his Exhibit 9 contract. The report indicates that the Knicks intend to re-sign Shamet once he recovers from his injury.
Shamet, 27, averaged 10.8 points with 2.8 rebounds in four preseason games, while going 9 of 30 from 3-point range. His shoulder injury occurred in Tuesday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets.
In seven NBA seasons, Shamet has averaged 8.7 points with 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 348 games (97 starts) for the Philadelphia 76ers (2018-19), Los Angeles Clippers (2019-20), Brooklyn Nets (2020-21), Phoenix Suns (2021-23) and Washington Wizards (2023-24).
