For some it is Columbus Day and for others, it is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. For yours truly, it is just another Monday that I am working. At Santa Anita today, they have a holiday card and we will take a look at their featured race today.
Santa Anita Race 7 – Swingtime Stakes
Nine fillies and mares are entered in today’s holiday feature at Santa Anita today. These distaffers will go a mile on the turf course.
Favored in today’s race is the 4 Queen of the Mud (3/1 morning line). I’m not sure if she is a queen of the mud because she has run exclusively on the turf except for one race at Presque Isle Downs in August. She never races further than six furlongs in her seven-race career. If she can take her sprinter’s speed around the turf today she can win, but I question if she can go this far.
It appears that the 9 Gypsy Woman (4/1 ML) could be at the hip of the favorite here today. She will stalk just like she did at Del Mar back in August, looking to make her maiden voyage on the Santa Anita green a winning one.
Getting some class relief today is the 1 Royal Charter (6/1 ML) who faced graded stakes company at Del Mar in September. She was on the lead last time out and faded in the John C. Mabee Stakes. I doubt she goes for the lead here today. She will be better suited stalking or even making one huge move as they turn for home.
The 6 Moment’s Pleasure (7/2 ML) finished third in an optional claiming race two weeks ago at Santa Anita. She won the Solana Beach two races back at Del Mar. She could stalk the leaders or drop a few lengths back.
Joe’s Pick
This field is filled with late running fillies and mares here. The favorite looks very beatable here because she has not raced beyond six furlongs. I can see Queen of the Mud getting caught in deep stretch.
Gypsy Woman will stalk and take the lead in the stretch, but I think it is Moment’s Pleasure who will be closing to win this race today. I’ll call this race 6-9-1-4 and my play is $20 to win on the 6. Best of luck everyone!
