The start of the 2024 MLB postseason did not disappoint with every road team taking an opening win besides the San Diego Padres. After going five for eight on the first slate of the postseason, it’s time to move to Game 2 of these 2024 Wildcard’s.
Detroit Tigers at Houston Astros
Tyler Holton vs. Hunter Brown
Tigers Moneyline + Matt Vierling & Riley Over 0.5 Hits (+136 SGP)
The Tigers are in a very good spot after winning game one yesterday afternoon. The Astros utilized some very good arms in Framber Valdez, Ronel Blanco and Josh Hader combining for 7.1 innings of work. If Tyler Holton can get them off to a good start, the offense should follow with some run support.
Two bats that need to lead the way for the Tigers today are Matt Vierling and Riley Greene. Vierling in nine at bats against Hunter Brown has a .333 batting average, and in yesterday’s start to the postseason recorded a hit and a walk and will look to continue to see the ball well today to advance to the ALDS.
Riley Greene has a near .300 batting average against Hunter Brown as well, and is coming off of a game one with a double in five at bats. He’s another hitter in this Detroit lineup that will look to produce more in order to help eliminate the Astros.
Kansas City Royals at Baltimore Orioles
Seth Lugo vs. Zach Eflin
Orioles Moneyline & Zach Eflin Over 3.5 Strikeouts
The Orioles with their backs against the wall need to come away with a win, and against a pitcher they do very well against in Seth Lugo, they should hopefully get the bats going again. In 32 total at bats against Lugo, the Orioles have hit for a .375 batting average. While they posted good numbers against Cole Ragans and got blanked, this is a must-win game for Baltimore.
With that same thought process, the Orioles need a good start from Eflin to give them the best chance at taking this game. Eflin tends to strike out more batters recently when pitching at home, and with a low line of 3.5 at plus odds, is the prop pick for this possible elimination game.
New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers
Sean Manaea vs. Frankie Montas
Over 7.5 Runs Scored
While Sean Manaea has been great throughout the second half of the season, the Brewers seem to be his kryptonite. His last outing against them did not go well, going 3.2 innings pitched while giving six runs and seven hits. The Brewers hit .326 against Manaea and with elimination on the line here, need to show up and score.
For the Mets they’ll look to stay hot and advance tonight. They’ll need to get off to a good start against Frankie Montas, and with a .275 batting average against the Brewers right hander, the Mets offense should be able to stay hot as well.
Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres
Max Fried vs. Joe Musgrove
Padres Moneyline & Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases
The Padres look to take the series against Atlanta tonight at home with Joe Musgrove on the mound. After a dominating win that saw not much of the Padres pitching staff get used to shut the Braves out 4-0, they’re in great shape to sweep tonight.
One hitter who needs to lead the way for them offensively tonight is Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis has been solid at the plate lately, coming off of a home run in last night’s game one. He has a .400 batting average against Max Fried, and Fernando will undoubtedly look to steer the momentum into San Diego’s direction early again.
