We close out the month of September by heading up to the Finger Lakes region for today’s race. A field of $5,000 claimers going six furlongs on the main track in today’s QPW. Post time is set for approximately 3:25 pm Eastern time.
Finger Lakes Race 6
Favored is the 5 Luca Loca (3/1 ML). She has been closer to the pace since running at Finger Lakes over the summer. She got the class relief from changing from the NYRA circuit to here. Last time out she dropped back and made one big move despite being at least seven-wide on the turn. Being closer to the rail should be the elixir for her to get her picture taken for the first time in almost two years.
The 3 Raw Power (10/1 ML) changed hands privately after her last race at Penn National on August 30. Not much can be made about that last race There were only for fillies and mares running. She does shorten up to run six furlongs in her first sprint race in over a year.
The 4 Necessaryandproper (7/2 ML) had a similar story to the morning line favorite. She couldn’t cut it on the NYRA circuit ad ended up at Finger Lakes. She is a front running type and if she runs like she did three weeks ago, she will win this race.
Showing some relatively good form among this class of horses is the 6 She Loves to Move (4/1 ML). She wintered last winter in Florida, breaking her maiden at Tampa Bay Downs then ended up at Finger Lakes. She has run close to the pace in her races here and should be right at the hip of Necessaryandproper if she does get the lead today.
Joe’s Pick
These are the type of races you will see at tracks like Finger Lakes on a typical weekday. Not all horses are champion caliber, and personally I think these races are fun because of the mental puzzle that I talk about every once in a while.
Necessaryandproper has shown a tendency since going to Finger Lakes to be close but not finishing the job. Luna Loca changed tactics last time out. If she drops back and is closer to the rail, she might win. Raw Power intrigues me, but this looks like new connections might be getting a race at Finger Lakes to see if they see something new.
I will take She Loves to Move here today. She has been moving well in the stretch in three of her last four races. She should find her way to the winner’s circle today. Let’s call this 6-4-3-5 and my final win wager of the month is a $20 wager on the 6. Best of luck everyone!
