3 Picks for the September 22nd MLB Slate

Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds

Paul Skenes vs. Hunter Greene

Under 8 Total Runs

The final game of the 2024 season at Great American Ballpark features yet again an incredible pitching matchup. Two National League Central aces in Paul Skenes and Hunter Greene will face off in what is a rather meaningless but fun game. While the Reds offense has been solid lately, they have a .176 batting average against Skenes.

Hunter Greene has been great at limiting earned runs in his starts, giving up less than three earned runs in eight of his last ten starts. While the Pirates have decent numbers against Greene they have a .643 OPS as a team in the last seven days, making the under eight total runs the pick of the day.

New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics

Luis Gil vs. Joey Estes

Luis Gil Under 15.5 Total Outs

Gil has been solid for New York lately after struggling a bit throughout the summer months of the season. He’s thrown by far the most innings he’s ever thrown in a season this year, and at this point late in the regular season could be limited in starts. This makes the under 15.5 total outs a solid pick for today as he’s gone 5.0 innings pitched in his last two starts.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Milwaukee Brewers

Jordan Montgomery vs. Frankie Montas

Willy Adames o0.5 Hits

Adames has been in a bit of a slump recently but can look to break it today against a left handed Jordan Montgomery. Against Montgomery, Adames has four hits in 17 at bats and an .821 OPS. After the Brewers have taken three straight losses to Arizona, they need to salvage one win and Willy Adames producing at the plate is crucial for their success. While they’ve clinched the postseason already, these games can still have important implications for matchups in October.
