Quills Picks Winners – Monday 9/16 – Louisiana Downs Race 6

After selecting the winner on closing day at Monmouth Park, we head south today to Louisiana Downs, a track who will be closing up shop on the season next week. They have a few days left in their seasons, so we will take a look at today’s sixth race on their card.

Today’s featured race is a mile and sixteenth race on the turf course. Eight fillies and mares in this allowance race will head to the gate around 7:10 pm Eastern time.

Favored amongst this octet is the 7 Beautiful Navigator (5/2 morning line). She finished third in a mile turf race at Evangeline Downs where it appears she had some slight traffic issues down the backstretch. She closed to win three back at Louisiana Downs back in June and will look to close here today.

The 4 Rosie’s Angus (7/2 ML) had to check hard on the final turn at Evangeline in mid-August yet continued to close to get her nose down on the wire to win last time out. She has two wins in her last three races, all on the turf. She has been a consistent closing type so far this year who will be running late.

Girls Got Game (#8, 8/1 ML) returns to Louisiana Downs after a failed trip to Oklahoma in a turf race at Remington Park. She returns home looking to win like she did two races back at LaD where she closed to win by two lengths.

Capella Red (#6, 6/1 ML) broke her maiden back in May at Louisiana Downs but has not shown mush in three races since. She finished fifth at Evangeline where we was less than four lengths behind the leader. She will need to improve off of that effort to win here today.

Joe’s pick

In a race devoid of front running speed, this race looks like this could be a two-to-three-furlong sprint to the finish. Rosie’s Angus overcame traffic troubles on the final turn to willingly win last time out. These are not world beaters but we should see an exciting finish with Rosie getting her nose down once again.

Let’s call this race 4-8-7-6 and my play is a $20 win wager on the 4. Best of luck everyone!
