The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-handed reliever Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list on Sunday because of discomfort on the left side of his neck.
The move was retroactive to Thursday. In other moves, the Diamondbacks reinstated catcher Gabriel Moreno (strained left adductor) from the 10-day IL, recalled rookie left-hander Blake Walston from Triple-A Reno and designated righty Dylan Floro for assignment.
Sewald, 34, last pitched on Sept. 8, allowing two hits and one run in one inning in a 12-6 road win against the Houston Astros. He is 1-2 with 16 saves, a 4.31 ERA, 10 walks and 43 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings over 42 relief appearances.
He began the season on the IL because of a strained left oblique.
Sewald is a career 20-25 with 84 saves and a 4.09 ERA in 359 relief appearances for the New York Mets (2017-20), Seattle Mariners (2021-23) and Diamondbacks.
Moreno, 24, left the Aug. 5 game against the host Cleveland Guardians in the second inning after running out a ground-ball single. He went on the 10-day IL on Aug. 6 after an MRI showed a strained left adductor muscle.
Moreno is batting .262 with five home runs and 41 RBIs in 86 games this season. He is a career .279 hitter with 13 homers and 98 RBIs in 222 games with the Toronto Blue Jays (2022) and Diamondbacks (2023-present).
Walston, 23, is 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA, nine walks and 11 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings over three games (two starts) since making his major league debut on May 1. He was 3-2 with a 4.85 ERA, 31 walks and 68 strikeouts in 65 innings over 14 games (13 starts) at Triple-A.
Floro, 33, was 3-1 with a 9.37 ERA, four walks and eight strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings over 15 relief appearances for Arizona, which acquired him in a July 30 trade with the Washington Nationals for first baseman Andres Chaparro.
Floro was 3-3 with a 2.06 ERA in 52 1/3 innings over 51 relief appearances this season for the Nationals. He is a career 32-26 with 32 saves and a 3.49 ERA in 396 relief appearances for eight different teams since 2016.
