The Owls close out their first road-trip on the season with a productive weekend in Lubbock, Texas. The Owls gained a 3-1 victory over Northern Arizona to complete a 2-1 road-trip. Florida Atlantic now has their fifth win of the season.
Starting out, set one had no separation as when the first media timeout was called it was nine all. Florida Atlantic went on a 5-1 scoring run after the break to jump out to a 14-10 lead before the Lumberjacks called a timeout of their own. FAU kept flying away as they held on to their advantage to win set one 25-19.
Set two seemed to be a mirror image of set one, as it was a close start once again at a 7-7 tie. NAU used a 3-0 scoring run to take an early 10-7 lead. The advantage stretched to 12-8 for the Lumberjacks before an Owls timeout. Florida Atlantic scrapped back after being down by 6 to make it a 19-19 set. NAU reached set point five times before FAU was able to reach their own set point at 29-28. Set two finally ended with Florida Atlantic winning 30-28.
The Owls’ 2-0 lead was a great advantage heading into set three as they needed the insurance after Northern Arizona took an early 4-1 lead. NAU stretched their lead to seven at 12-5 before an FAU timeout. FAU and NAU traded 4-0 runs keeping the lead at seven. The Owls put their foot down and forced a NAU timeout after going on a 5-0 run to cut the Lumberjack lead down to two at 18-16. FAU stayed dominant as they tied set three at 19. Sadly, the comeback was not enough as NAU won the set at 25-21
In set four, FAU had an early two point lead 6-4. As the advantage flipped a couple of times, the set was all drawn up at 12. At the media timeout, it was a 15-13 advantage for the Owls. Florida Atlantic held on to their close lead to win 25-21. The Owl’s won the match 3-1.
Valeria Rosado led in kills for FAU with her total of 15. Florida Atlantic as a team had 69. Blocks were the category dominated by the Lumberjacks as they had a team total of 15.5 with Kendall Robertson leading with a total of 10; FAU had 3. Finally, the Owls committed 28 errors compared to NAU’s 19.
Florida Atlantic (5-2) heads to Tallahassee for a two match swing against Florida State and UCF. Florida State has their best start since 2017 at 4-0 with a top 25 victory over Georgia. The Knights are currently 3-0 with a road victory over ACC opponent Virginia Tech. The match between the Seminoles and the Owls takes place on Friday, September 13th.
