Florida Atlantic Soccer falls to Utah Valley in Close Match

NCAA Soccer Recap: Utah Valley 1 – Florida Atlantic 0

There is a reason soccer is scored in goals and not shots, as the Owls had seven shots on goal, but are not able to find the net as Utah Valley wins 1-0.

FAU started off with their hair on fire as they had four shots and three corner attempts within the first ten minutes of play. The season total in corners for the Owls was five in their first three matches.

Defensively, Florida Atlantic gave the Wolverines fits as Utah Valley was not able to get off a shot attempt until the 23rd minute. That is when Utah Valley’s Isaac Emojong had the matches first shot attempt for the Wolverines which resulted in a goal to give them a 1-0 advantage over the Owls.

The advantage held into halftime for the Wolverines as they finished the half with only one shot attempt. FAU had 12 shot attempts with seven of those attempts being on goal. Utah Valley’s Ben Williams was a brick wall in the first as he had seven saves. Finally the Owls had 5 corner attempts already tying their season total in one half.

Coming out of halftime not much changed for either team. As the game entered the 70th minute Florida Atlantic kept their pedal down as they fought to keep the ball on their side of the pitch.

Utah Valley had two counter attacks with numbers, but Nacho Alfaro and the FAU defense was able to stop the runs. Sadly, The Owls would not be able to find the equalizer as Utah Valley was able to use their one goal to hold on to a 1-0 win.

Florida Atlantic was provided seven corner attempts while Utah Valley had five. The team leader in shots for FAU was Oliver Moller-Jensen (Photos, Angelina LaBelle).

Florida Atlantic falls to 1-2-1 on the campaign as Utah Valley gains another win to improve to 3-0-1.
