The Baltimore Orioles placed hot-hitting infielder Ramon Urias on the 10-day injured list and activated right-hander Zach Eflin to start Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.
With rosters expanding Sunday, the Orioles also added top infield prospect Coby Mayo, while the club purchased the contract of catcher David Banuelos. Outfielder Forrest Wall was designated for assignment.
Urias, 30, left Saturday’s game at Colorado with an ankle injury. He was batting .341 with four home runs and 15 RBIs over his past 15 games. In five seasons with Baltimore, he is a career .262 hitter with 38 home runs and 169 RBIs in 422 games.
Eflin, 30, last pitched Aug. 15 before going on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. In four starts with the Orioles, after he was acquired before the trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays, he was 4-0 with a 2.13 ERA. Over nine seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies, Rays and Orioles, he is 61-60 with a 4.20 ERA in 181 appearances (169 starts).
Mayo, 22, made his major league debut earlier this season and had one hit in 17 at-bats over seven games. Banuelos, 27, also made his major league debut earlier this season, appearing in one game on April 16.
