Monday 1/8/24 – Parx Race 6
Let’s head home today, or at least where I call home as we will head to Parx for race 6 for today’s Quills Picks Winners. We did have the winter storm pass through on Saturday, though most of it was rain where I am in Northeast Philadelphia and where the track is in Bensalem, PA. I would not be surprised that we have a wet track for this race, but we are talking a little over 24 hours from when the last rain drop fell in the Philadelphia area and when these 11 horses aged four years old and upward who are in for a claiming tag of $7500 when they enter the gate around 2:20 pm Eastern Time.
The 10 Gimmebackmybullets (5/1 morning line) tired last time out while inside against this same class of runners. He should like being on the outside today as I expect the rail to potentially be dead because of the weather that went through on Saturday.
The 3 Large (9/2 ML) had traffic troubles on the turn in the same race at the 10 further out on the trade and still improved to finished third last out. A similar run without the traffic issues could lead to a picture being taken in the paddock as the winner.
Bullet Butch (#5, 3/1 ML favorite) is the horse to beat here after three good races in a row, and losing by a neck last out in this same common race.
One horse that was not in that December 26 race that I keep falling back to is the 1 Let It Flow Joe (8/1 ML). He looks like he could potentially be lone speed here, but I would like him to ease to the three or four path here. He tired last time out going two turns, and seven furlongs is an interesting distance since route runners can win at this distance much more easily than six furlongs.
I’m going to say Large will get a similar trip in the last start, but he will not have the traffic issues. He passes Let it Flow Joe in the stretch to win. Bullet Butch and Gimmebackmybullets will close out the top four. I’m going 3-1-5-10 in the fifth at Parx, and my play is $20 to win on the 3 Large. Good luck everyone and catch you on Tuesday for another Quills Picks Winners!
Updates
- Heavy favorite Kopion went gate to wire on Sunday to win the Grade 3 Santa Ynez at Santa Anita. Don’t Bring Crazy finished second to complete an exacta that paid $4.70 exacta for a $1 wager. My pick Tambo over Kopion did not hit obviously.
- The unofficial horse of the Bleacher Brothers Uncle Ernie is back! Well, at least he is back in training, as he breezed 4 furlongs in 50.60 seconds, ranked 71st out of 112 for those that worry about who was fasted at that distance. It was his first appearance on the workout tab since a third place finish in a Pennsylvania-bred stakes race on August 21.
