FAU Men’s Soccer Draws Against Creighton in Initial Omaha Match

Head Coach Joey Worthen and the FAU Men’s soccer team traveled to the midwest to Omaha, Nebraska for their season opener against the Creighton Bluejays.

The Owls looked to start their season off on a high note, against a Creighton team that is looking to improve from their 4-7-6 record from 2023.

The Bluejays would threaten on the attack the entire game, but the Owls defense stood strong to draw their season opener 0-0.

The Owls weren’t giving themselves much to work with on the attacking end. They had four offsides compared to just one on the Creighton side, ending four possible chances of a shot or a goal right there.

They had just six shots the entire game, none of which were shots on goal. They only earned one corner kick as well compared to Creighton’s eight, and just couldn’t get any real threats on the attacking end.

While the Owls couldn’t get a goal of their own, the defense made sure that Creighton couldn’t get one either. Creighton had 15 shots compared to FAU’s four, and four shots on goal.

Owls Goalkeeper Nacho Alfaro denied every Blue Jay shot on goal, tallying four saves in his season opener. The fouls the whole game were fairly even, with the final total being 12-11 with FAU committing more fouls.

While it wasn’t the start the Owls wanted for their 2024 season, a draw is certainly better than starting your season with a loss.
They’ll have one more game in Omaha before returning to Boca Raton, where they’ll take on the Omaha Mavericks on Sunday.
