12/29/23: Santa Anita Race 7 – Eddie Logan Stakes
Let’s head back to Santa Anita on this Friday for the Eddie Logan Stakes for two-year-olds going one mile on the turf course. Note that the rail is scheduled to be out 30 feet for this race. Post time for this race is approximately 6 pm Eastern time, so there’s plenty of time to look over this race.
One thing I do want to mention is that occasionally tracks do move the rail in and out in order to preserve the inner most part of the track for their top turf races. Sometimes it is good to know that the rail is out or not, and how far it is out because it may lead to more front running winners since there is less room for the closers to find a seam to finish strong.
For this race, the 7 Miracle Mark (7/2 morning line) barely missed last time out at this distance a few weeks ago at Del Mar and he should be fine as long as he is not too far behind the leaders in this race. He shouldn’t be too far behind the favorite American Hope (#8, 5/2 ML), who broke his maiden in November at Del Mar while closer to the lead. The 9 Stay Hot (7/2 ML) bounced back after tiring at Santa Anita to win that grade 3 at Del Mar.
The 2 Lord Bullingdon (3/1 ML) is the mile turf pro of the field having run four times already at this distance. He should be far enough that he’s not with the leaders, but still close enough to pounce when they turn for home.
Lord Bullingdon is my play here and I’ll bet $10 to win on the 2. I’ll call this 2-7-9-8.
Good luck everyone and catch you on Saturday.
