New York scored all of its runs in the fourth inning and shut out Illinois for a 4-0 victory in an elimination game Sunday at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
Starter Vincent Ruggiero allowed two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in five innings, and Dean Scarangello yielded one hit and one walk while fanning one batter in one inning to close out the game for Metro Region champions from Staten Island, N.Y. (2-1).
Scarangello had one of New York’s nine hits and drove in two runs, while Nicholas McLean, Jake Romero and Dylan DeGaeta had two hits apiece.
The Great Lakes Region champion, Hinsdale, Ill., went 0-2 with losses to Hawaii (West Region) on Friday and New York.
Mexico 8, Canada 0
Antonio Guerrero hit two doubles, went 3-for-3 and scored three times for Mexico (2-1), which eliminated Canada (1-2) in the International Bracket.
Raul Hernandez Jr., Francisco Aguilar and Dominic Balderas combined on the two-hit shutout for the team from Tamaulipas, Mexico. Luis Longoria doubled and knocked in two runs, while Hernandez and Ulises Ortiz each drove in one run.
Surrey, Canada — which lost to Taiwan (Asia-Pacific Region) on Wednesday and eliminated Puerto Rico on Saturday — totaled two singles on Sunday by Ronan Bobilies and Eric Popovich.
