Golden Knights 5 – Sharks 4
Vegas quiet first period
The Vegas Golden Knights went scoreless in the first period and didn’t score any goals in that period. They had eight shot-on-goal attempts in the first period against the Sharks. Vegas gave an early goal to the sharks.
Sharks goal was at the 28 second mark of the first period and was scored by Mario Ferraro his first goal of the season. Ferraro’s goal was assisted by Kyle Burroughs his fourth assist of the season and Mikael Granlund his 14th assist of the year. The sharks ended the period with nine shots on goal and one of the nine shots on goal was in.
All Vegas second Period
The Golden Knights finally found a way to get onto the scoreboard against the Sharks and scored the tying goal at the five and half minute mark. The Vegas Golden Knights goal was scored by Jonathan Marchessault his 13th goal of the season and he got assisted by Brett Howden who got his fourth assist of the season. The actual time of the goal for Vegas to tie the game was at five minutes and 34 seconds.
Vegas scored again, this time this was close to the end of the second period. This goal that went in for Vegas this time gave them the lead two to one against the Sharks. The goal was scored by Chandler Stephenson, his fourth goal of the season. Stephenson’s goal was assisted by Alex Pietrangelo who picked up his 12th assist this season and also Mark Stone helped with the assist and Stone recorded his 17th assist this season.
Vegas had game in bag but Sharks came back
Vegas Golden Knights was the first team to score at the beginning of the third period and was up three to one. The time of the goal was one minute and 43 seconds. That goal was scored by Brayden McNabb. This goal for McNabb is his second goal of the season. McNabb’s goal was assisted by Jack Eichel who recorded his 20th assist of the season. Kaedan Korczak also assisted the goal and this is Korczak’s sixth assist this season.
San Jose came and scored in two minutes and 13 seconds after Vegas scored. This Sharks goal was scored by Mike Hoffman. Hoffman recorded his seventh goal this season and he got assists by Mikael Granlund his 15th assist of the season and also Kaapo Kahkonen the goalie of the Sharks his first of the season.
Four minutes and 33 seconds later Vegas scored again making the score four to two Golden Knights. For the second time tonight Jonathan Marchessault scored again to record goal number 14 this season. This time he had two different people to get an assist for the goal. Chandler Stephenson picked his eleventh assist this season and also Zach Whitecloud recorded his third assist this season. The time of this goal was at nine minutes and 23 seconds.
San Jose started a comeback towards the end of the period and scored two goals at the end of the period but the first of these happened at around the 16 minute mark. The Sharks scored at the 16 minute and 15 seconds mark to make the score 4-3 Golden Knights and put the Sharks within one. This goal was scored by Calen Addison who recorded his first goal of the season. Addison goal got two people assisted by Justin Bailey who recorded his fourth assist of the season and Filip Zadina who recorded his third assist of the game.
Towards the end of the regulation the Sharks scored another goal this time it was at the 19 minute mark. The Sharks goal was scored by Mike Hoffman who recorded his eighth goal of the season and this is Hoffman’s second goal of the game. Hoffman’s goal was assisted by Tomas Hertl his 15th assist of the game and also Alexander Barabanov who recorded his third assist of the game. The time of the goal was 19 minutes and 21 seconds.
Overtime quietness for both teams
Neither team was able to score a goal in overtime and stayed quiet and didn’t have a lot of shots on goals. There were only three combined shots on goal during the overtime period. Neither team was able to end the game so it ended up in a shootout.
Shootout order
The Vegas Golden Knights start the shootout then San Jose Sharks go next then they switch and whoever scores in a three set but if is scoreless it goes into tiebreaker which is the case of this game. The Golden Knights sended out Nicolas Roy to start things but Roy was unsuccessful for the first one. Now the Sharks send out Kevin Labanc to start things for Sharks but Labanc was unsuccessful in his try. Vegas then sends out Jack Eichel to try to put something on the board.
Eichel’s goal was successful and Vegas now was up five to four. The last player the Sharks sent out was Mikael Granlund to try to even things up. Granlund was unsuccessful in handing Vegas the win. Vegas wanted to do one more shootout attempt and this one didn’t count Jonathan Marchessault. Marchessault’s goal was good and didn’t count but if it did count Marchessault would have had a hat trick in the game.
