USF Bulls are Bowl Bound
After trials and tribulations, coach Alex Golesh, Byrum Brown and the South Florida Bulls have found their way into bowl season for the first time since 2018.
After three seasons that saw only four wins under former head coach Jeff Scott, coach Golesh has been able to have everyone buy in to what is referred to as the “process,” creating what has been a rejuvenated team.
There were many questions coming into the 2023 season as to what the identity and level of this team would be and with Byrum Brown, who is now the all-time leading passer in school history and Sean Atkins, who has broke his own set of records this year at wide receiver, this program has new life.
Beyond just the resurgence, the Bulls now have a culture that is spreading, something that has poured out from the players to the coaching staff.
While the team still has work to do as a unit in some areas, there is some excitement heading into this bowl game come December.
While bowl games aren’t what they used to, for a group like USF who are building for the future, a bowl game allows for the team to continue to work towards attracting recruits and, overall, continue to work towards improving in 2024.
There are definitely a lot of positives for the Bulls to go bowling and there are also many possibilities as to where they will be playing come bowl season.
Many routes point towards the team hosting a “de-facto” home game at Raymond James Stadium in the Gasparilla Bowl, potentially in a War On I-4 showdown against the now Big 12’s UCF Knights; however, the Fenway Bowl at Fenway Park, First Responder Bowl in Texas, and Hawaii Bowl have been thrown out as potential landing spots for the Bulls come next month.
Nevertheless, it shall be quite an exciting way for the team to cap off what has been a comeback season for the entire program, with eyes set on a promising future for Golesh’s bunch.
