Miami Dolphins 34 – New York Jets 13
On a holiday that saw blowout after blowout following the morning game, Miam decided to make it memorable right out of the gate. It started with Ryan Fitzpatrick proving that he can still produce his own Fitzmagic by lighting up three targets in 30 seconds to give everyone 30% off a Harry Potter Collection on Amazon.
It culminated with the Dolphins finishing what the Cowboys started on Thanksgiving.
Tua Tagovailoa completed 21/30 passes for 243 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, but it was indeed the Raheem Mostert Show as the Fins grounded and pounded division rival Jets 34-13 to increase their division lead over Buffalo.
Fitzpatrick took great pleasure in watching two of his former teams battle on the field, and both quarterbacks were practically even. Tim Boyle, who stepped in for the struggling Zack Wilson, completed 27/38 passes for 179 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions of his own. But it was New York’s ground game that never came to fruition in this game versus Miami’s ground game and aerial assault that provided enough electricity to light up the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center.
Mostert was dangerous on the ground with 94 yards on 20 carries and a pair of touchdowns, while Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill were unstoppable. Waddle finished with 114 yards in eight catches, while Hill finished with 102 yards on nine catches and a touchdown. The Dynamic Duo had their way with the Jets’ tough defense, and it showed as Waddle and Hill showed up and showed out versus last week’s nailbiter with the Raiders.
Even Miami’s D tried to one up history maker and Cowboys player DaRon Bland as Jevon Holland took a pick-six 99 yards to the house to add to Miami’s lead, and Brandin Echols took a pick-six 30 yards to the house to try to keep the Jets in the show.
Tyreek Hill celebrated his touchdown, his tenth of the season, by giving his first game ball to his new wife, Keeta (yes, Cheetah and Keeta), whom he married two weeks ago during the Dolphins bye week.
However, the Dolphins did suffer a little tragedy during the fourth quarter as Jaelan Phillips was carted off the field due to an Achilles injury. One has got to start wondering if that field is just cursed considering the Jets’ cash cow, Aaron Rodgers, went down in his debut on it in Week One.
But in the end, it was not enough as Miami improved to 8-3, and the Jets dropped to 4-7.
On deck for the Dolphins will be a trip to DC to face the Commanders, while the Jets will prepare to host Atlanta. And then, we’ll find out for sure if Rodgers is truly coming back, or if he’s, like Tom Brady, trying to keep the spotlight on himself just a little longer.
