Diamondbacks win NLCS over Phillies – Embrace the Chaos
Zac Gallen enjoyed the final word against fans of the Philadelphia Phillies, as his team, the Arizona Diamondbacks, advanced to the World Series. In a message on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Gallen humorously responded to a Phillies supporter, suggesting that the fan should start thinking about tickets for the 2024 spring training games.
The Diamondbacks clinched their spot in the World Series with a 4-2 win over the Phillies in the deciding Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. Philly went up 2-0 at home before losing the next two in Arizona (games Bleacher Brothers covered, check out on our social media). After winning Game 5 in AZ, Philly dropped the remaining two in front of their home fans.
The Phillies were looking to avenge their World Series loss from last year, but the DBacks had different ideas. The DBacks have gone from “plucky upstarts” at the beginning of the Wild Card Round (defeating the NL Central Champion Milwaukee Brewers) to cementing their place atop the National League. This marks Arizona’s first return to the World Series since 2001; a historic series against the New York Yankees after 9-11.
Although Gallen had lackluster performances in Games 1 and 5 of the NLCS, where he gave up five home runs and nine runs over 11 innings, he is turning his focus toward the forthcoming championship series against the Texas Rangers. While he was an easy target for Phillies fans to troll, unfortunately for them, it is he who is enjoying basking in their tears. Even with the celebrations last night, for the Diamondbacks to secure another championship, Gallen will need to substantially improve his game.
As for the Phillies, they go into the offseason licking their wounds. Despite boasting a lineup rich with talent, including Bryce Harper, Zack Wheeler, and Trea Turner, this was seen as their best shot to bring home a chip since their win against Tampa Bay in 2008.
