Recap: Wichita State 14 – FAU 9

After dropping game one to FAU, Wichita State looked to get back on track offensively. They did just that, tallying 14 runs in their game two win over the Owls to even up the series. FAU dropped a very back and forth game and with this loss, now have a conference record of 6-5. Wichita State, after evening the series holds the same conference record, with just two less losses than UTSA and ECU.

The Shockers opened up the scoring in the first frame with an RBI single from Dayvin Johnson. The Owls would take the lead back in the second, with a walk that brought in a run, and a home run from Christian Adams. The lead would be retaken in the third by the Shockers, when they scored two, one off of an error from the FAU defense. Wichita State now led 4-2.

FAU

There seems to be a trend with this FAU offense, where Emilio Gonzalez and Christian Adams both hit home runs in the same game on the road. Gonzalez hit a three run home run that gave the Owls the lead back at 5-4. Both teams would tally one more run each in the fifth, to make the score 6-5 before Wichita State scored two more in the sixth.

FAU would score three more runs across the seventh and eighth innings. John Schroeder picked up another home run, this one a two-run blast. He now has three in the last two games. Jalen DeBose would continue to shine offensively as he picked up an RBI single. Despite this effort from the Owls, the Shockers would put up a six-spot in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

A team would finally get to Danny Trehey, and it took 26 innings for it to happen. He gave up four hits and five earned runs for a rare blowup performance. Coming off of an outing the night before, he’ll look to reset and get back to his dominant ways.

FAU

FAU has a chance to take the series in game three and continue to hold their position in the top half of the standings. Trey Beard will look to put together a solid start in order to let the bullpen rest, and players like John Schroeder and Jalen DeBose will look to stay consistent in this series at the plate. A win in the game three rubber match would be huge for the Owls down the road later this season.
