Benoit Saint-Denis might have just suffered one of the worst losses of his career, but he’s already moved on and is hoping to manifest his next opponent. Not long after getting knocked out for the first time in his career, Saint-Denis has openly stated that he’d be looking to meet up with Beneil Dariush in the Octagon next.
Saint-Denis had just met with Dustin Poirier in hist last fight, and that didn’t end up going so well for him. As was mentioned earlier, he was knocked out for the first time in his career. He’s since come out and revealed that he wants to remain active throughout the remainder of the year, possibly to bounce back quickly enough as to not let the sting of defeat stick around too long. Not only has he said that he wants to fight in the summer, but that he also plans to compete towards the end of the year, when the UFC likely heads down to Paris.
Saint-Denis Hoping Get Involved If UFC Goes To Paris
It’s not confirmed yet if the UFC will hold a card in Paris, though that’s currently the expectation. They’ve gone down to Paris each of the past two years now and rumors have been swirling that they have plans to do that again in 2024. If they do, expect Saint-Denis to push himself onto the card. Here’s what he said, “I want to get one fight before UFC Paris and then to be at UFC Paris. I believe it will be late September because we have the Olympics, so I don’t think they’ll put it as early as usual. Early September would have been difficult to do one fight before it, but if I fight at the end of June or July then September would be great.”
Of course, he was questioned on who he’d like to meet up with, to which he responded Beneil Dariush. He openly said that he was planning on fighting Dariush before Poirier stepped in between them and got into the Octagon. He’s going to really need to push to get into a bout with Dariush though, as the recent knockout likely forces him into a tough position. He said, “Any fight against somebody in the Top 15 is a great fight for me, I’m not going to ask the UFC for too much, you have to deserve it and like I say, I don’t want the easy way. They can give me anybody in the Top 15 and I will be happy about it.”
If and when UFC Paris gets confirmed, there’s definitely going to be some eyes as to whether or not Saint-Denis will make it onto the card, and if he’ll be able to get the matchup he’s looking for.
