We stay at Gulfstream’s for today’s race of the day. On top today is another optional claiming event, which like yesterday, is contested at one mile on the main track. There are seven horses that are entered for today’s featured race.
Gulfstream Race 8 – Optional Claiming
Favored in today’s race is the 1 Tuscan Gold (2/1 morning line). This colt was last seen at Pimlico at the Preakness and returns today at Gulfstream. He got bumped around at the start of the Preakness but still finished fourth despite the trouble at the start of the race. He looks ready to go here today despite the layoff and will be running late here today.

The 4 Who’s the King (7/2 ML) also raced against Seize the Grey last time out, but this time, it was at the Pennsylvania Derby at Parx. He showed little and went on a layoff after that. This colt returns today looking to get back on track here today. I am expecting this horse to be on or near the lead here today.
Challenging Who’s the King on the front end should be the 6 Malarchuk (5/2 ML). He has been regularly on the workout reports since November and will run for the first time since last April. He broke his maiden going gate to wire at Aqueduct, and I expect the same type race on the front end here today.
The 7 Timeout (5/1 ML) also ran in the Pennsylvania Derby in September and like Who’s the King, did not show much that day. He ran at Aqueduct in November and was wide. After a few workouts since his arrival in Florida, he is back here today at Gulfstream. I am expecting him to be closing here.

Joe’s Pick
I am expecting a speed duel between Who’s the King and Malarchuk. That should set up nicely for the closers here today. Timeout has had less of a layoff than the favorite Tuscan Gold who faced some of the toughest three-year-olds last year. I’ll take a chance on the outside horse today in Timeout to win today at Gulfstream.
I’m calling this race 7-1-4-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 7. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
