After Monday’s cancellation at Parx due to the snow, we are headed somewhere warm. We stay out west and look at the finale on the Monday Turf Paradise card. We have nine older maiden fillies and mares going a short four and a half furlongs on the main track. It is very possible that if you blink, you will miss this race!
Turf Paradise Race 9 – Maiden Claiming
The favorite in today’s race is the 9 Awesome Wildcat (3/1 ML). She draws the outside for today’s race. There is a short run into the turn, but if she runs the same type of race like last time, then she should be able to get to the lead and get over towards the rail. Having her first race under her belt will help her today.
The 5 Sal Gal (9/2 ML) runs for the second time off of a 10-month layoff. She pressed the leaders in her return and tired. The shorter distance and having that race last month at Turf Paradise will help her today.
The 4 Twisted Mischief (5/1 ML) is a first-time starter with some nice works. If you dig a little bit, you will see that this filly had some high intentions last year because she was entered in some stakes races at Turf Paradise. Something went wrong and she ends up here today. Her sire Lotsa Mischief gets 17% winners from his offspring when they make their first career start.
The 3 Rally Up Becka (8/1 ML) stalked the pace in her debut at Hastings last June. She returns here at Turf Paradise with a new trainer. That race at Hastings was a tricky one as that six-and-a-half-furlong track is a two-turn race. We will see how she transitions to a traditional one-mile circumference track today.
Joe’s Pick
Awesome Wildcat is going to be tough here today. The only issue I foresee is the fact that she is on the outside here with a short run into the turn. I don’t think she will need to get all the way to the rail, but as long as she isn’t wide on the turn, she will win this race going away.
Let’s call this race 9-4-5-3 and my play is $20 to win on the 9. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
