Tuesday 3/12/24 – Parx Race 6

We stay at Parx for the Tuesday Quills Picks Winners, as once again, we will look at race six today as we have older horses going a mile and 70 yards. These $7500 claimers who have not won a race in the last three months will go to the post at approximately 2:59 pm Eastern time.

The lukewarm favorite for today’s race is the 6 Sevier (7/2 morning line). He is a 10-year old gelding who is 29 for 76 lifetime. Most horses today don’t race 29 times, let alone WIN 29 times. Trainer Jamie Ness trained this horse right after the new year after he was claimed away from him the race before that in mid-December. Jamie Ness knows this horse, and this horse has performed very well while under his care. He’s a router who loved the return to Ness’ stable and loves to run on the on the lead going two turns like last time out. Toss that January race. He’s very dangerous here.

Sevier could have company on the front end with the 3 Lord Mio (8/1 ML) and the 5 Tycoon (5/1 ML). Toss that last race for Lord Mioas he had a horrible start. As long as there are no issues at the start of the race for him, he will be contending at the very lease. Tycoondueled on the front end but tired going seven furlongs two weeks ago. But the question is will he be caught up in a speed duel here.

The 8 El Hermano (9/2 ML) returns to the races after a three-and-a-half-month layoff, and something went amiss in November because there was a voided claim there. When he is at his best, this eight-year cold will be running at the end of the race. With the speed duel that could happen, then he might have the targets to pass in the stretch.

The 2 Create Again (8/1) does not appear fast enough to gun for the lead, but he has faced much tougher. He is second race back from the layoff, and the familiar surroundings of the Northeast should help him today. I’m willing to toss that race which was his first in 9 months.

It is hard to look away from Sevier despite the fact that all he does is run well under trainer Jamie Ness. But I am going to take El Hermano to win this race today getting his nose down before the morning line favorite. I’ll call this 8-6-2-3 and my play is $20 to win on the 8. Good luck everyone!
