Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 12/22 – Gulfstream Park Race 10

We are staying at Gulfstream Park as they close out the week here. We are looking at their finale today as we have juvenile fillies going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 10 – Maiden Special Weight

Favored in this field of juvenile fillies is the 2 Inallprobability (3/1 ML). She stretches out to two turns today after debuting last month in a five-furlong sprint. She tired in her debut going shorter, but she was bumped around at the start of the race. That might be a valid excuse for this filly whose trainer is very good with horses going from a sprint to a route like today.

The 6 Snipsnippitysnip (7/2 ML) might not be what you want to hear if you ‘re a colt so the name isn’t that inappropriate. She has three races under her belt already having run at Saratoga and Aqueduct. Last time out at Aqueduct she did stumble badly at the start, so that might be the built excuse for her. She has an edge here being the only horse who has gone two turns today on the turn, having done do three times.

The 10 Zenith (10/1 ML) is an interesting entry here today. She debuted on the turf going seven and a half furlongs at Delaware Park in September where she steadied. She needed that race last month at Gulfstream Park today after racing on the Tapeta. That race may divert eyes elsewhere, but she ends up back on what might be her preferred surface after that stamina builder.

Also keep on eye on the 7 Unlimited Spending (9/2 ML). She is a first-time starter bred in Japan. There is little to no stats related to the breeding unless you really dig.  Works look good and Todd Pletcher does win 18% of the time with first time starters.

Joe’s Pick

In a race like this where you have limited information on whether these fillies can go this far on the turf, I’m looking for something to place my money on the winner. But thankfully I can look over some additional information for all of you.

Snipsnippitysnip got a break and resurfaces in Florida. She has an edge in terms of the distance. But Zenith is second race off of the layoff running on the Tapeta where that will build stamina. There was a reason why John Servis put this filly there, and that is why I am taking her today at what I hope will be a nice price.

Let’s call this race 10-6-7-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 10. Best of luck everyone, and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
