FAU traveled to Fort Worth as Ninth ranked TCU (9-0) hosted the Owls. TCU, who has earned two top 15 victories, were heavily favored against Florida Atlantic. The Horned Frogs made sure to not disappoint as they controlled the Owls from the tip to the final buzzer in a dominant win.
First Half
TCU started the contest on fire thanks to a 5 of 6 shooting performance and taking a 12-0 lead as Florida Atlantic called a timeout with 7:32 after putting up a goose egg to start. Mya Perry (pictured below, FAU) scored the Owls first points of the contest thanks to two free throws, 14-2 Horned Frogs. Texas Christian’s dominant start cooled down as they shot 1 of 11 over a near five minute span. FAU then cut the deficit, 17-9 TCU. At the end of the quarter the Horned Frogs led 18-12.
TCU extended their lead to 14 thanks to a 8-0 run. The Owls followed that up, cutting the lead down to ten with 5:39 remaining in the second. At the media timeout it was 28-16 TCU. The Horned Frogs stretched their lead once again up to 20, 38-18. Florida Atlantic had no answer as at the break it was 43-18 all TCU.
Halftime Stats
The Horned Frogs defense was nearly unstoppable as they held FAU to a 7-34 performance from the field. Texas Christian’s Hailey Van Lith led both squads in scoring with her total of 12 points.
Second Half
Florida Atlantic’s Jada Moore scored the first points of the half thanks to a tip in. TCU answered with two threes, 49-20 Horned Frogs with 6:36 remaining. The Owls cut slowly into the deficit as at the media timeout it was still TCU with the large lead 51-25. Texas Christian then reached a 31 point lead, 58-27 Horned Frogs. At the end of the quarter FAU had no answers as TCU led 65-29 thanks to a 7-0 run over the final 1:36 of the third.
Texas Christian’s dominant run continued in the fourth as the Horned Frogs grabbed a 44 point lead. The media timeout was called at 4:58 as Florida Atlantic trailed 74-33. TCU’s largest lead of the evening was 45, but the Owls went on a 7-0 run to bring the deficit below 40, 78-40 with 1:19 remaining. FAU ended the game on a 9-0 run, but the Horned Frogs earned the 78-42 win.
Erin Rodgers (top picture, FAU) and Perry were the only two Owls to reach double-digits as they both earned 13 points. The duo made up more than half of FAU’s offensive production. Florida Atlantic ended the night 25.4% from the field while shooting 4 of 19 from beyond the arc. Jada Moore earned 11 rebounds as the Owls earned 45. Moore also led in assists with her total of three. As a squad FAU earned three.
Florida Atlantic (5-4) will face off against Kennesaw State (2-4) who will play against Chattanooga on Dec. 8. The eight days off for FAU will be the longest break the squad will have during the season. It will be a great time for coaches to make any roster moves or decisions for the Owls. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m on Friday, December 13 at the Elly.
