Paul George has bone bruise in knee, out at least 2 games

The Philadelphia 76ers will be without Paul George for at least two games due to a bone bruise in his left knee.

The team said Thursday that an MRI on George’s knee showed no structural damage after he went down early in the third quarter of Wednesday’s 117-111 road loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

At the time, the team labeled the injury a hyperextended left knee. George missed the 76ers’ first five games of the season while nursing a similar injury suffered during the preseason.

Philadelphia plays the Brooklyn Nets on Friday and the Los Angeles Clippers — George’s former team — on Sunday, both at home.

George signed a four-year, $212 million max contract to join the 76ers in free agency, and in eight games thus far he has averaged 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.3 steals.

The Sixers own the league’s worst record at 2-12. Wednesday against Memphis was the first time the team had its new “big three” of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and George suit up together, as injuries — and in Embiid’s case, a three-game suspension — have kept each of them out of the lineup for stretches early this season.
