Mavericks’ Luka Doncic (wrist) out at least a week

Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic is nursing a strained right wrist and will be re-evaluated in one week, the team announced Thursday morning.

Doncic sat out his first game of the season on Sunday due to a right knee contusion. He returned to the floor two days later and scored a game-high 26 points in Dallas’ 132-91 win over the New Orleans Pelicans in NBA Cup play.

Doncic downplayed the injury following the game, telling reporters that it was “nothing serious.”

Per the team, Doncic underwent an MRI after the game.

The Mavericks face the Denver Nuggets on Friday to kick off a three-game road trip. They also visit the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks on Sunday and Monday, respectively, before hosting the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

Doncic, 25, is averaging 28.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists in 14 games (all starts) this season.

A five-time First Team All-NBA selection, Doncic sports averages of 28.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 414 career games (all starts) with the Mavericks.
