We head to New York for Thursday’s race, and at Aqueduct today we have a turf sprint for fillies and mares. We have 16 horses entered in this six-furlong race, but with the rail out 36 feet, a maximum of 10 horses will run.
Aqueduct Race 7 – Allowance
Favored in today’s race is the 11 Reflexivity (3/1 morning line). She is on the also eligible list for today’s race, but if she gets into the race, she will be the favorite here. The outside post would not be ideal, but she will gun for the lead and not look back. She won two in a row before being passed in deep stretch last time out at Aqueduct.
The 4 Collaboration (9/2 ML) closed willingly in her last two races, but those races have been around two turns. This is probably a perfect example of placing a horse in a race to get one more race over a track, especially in Aqueduct’s case since turf racing ends this weekend. This is not an ideal spot, but trainer Linda Rice isn’t the most successful female trainer in horse racing history.
The 7 Golden Rocket (5/1 ML) returns to the turf after she finished fourth on the Aqueduct main track in the Iroquois. She closed impressively in her two turf sprints here at Aqueduct and at Saratoga. She will be closing here.
The 9 Marco T (7/2 ML) will be close to the pace today and willingly closed last month here at Aqueduct. She found her class level with her last three turf races and should be there at the end.
If Reflexivity draws in today, the 8 Striker Has Dial (9/2 ML) may challenge her for the lead. She will be on the turf today for the second time after going a mile last time out at Aqueduct. I would not be surprised if she ends up back on the dirt if she does not do well here today.
Joe’s Pick
If Reflexivity draws into the race, she will be tough on the front end. But I still think she is beatable. Golden Rocket appears to be the horse that will pass her in the stretch to win here today. I’ll call this 7-11-4-9 and my play is $20 to win on the 7. Best of luck everyone and see ya in the winner’s circle!
