Rafael Devers is one of the biggest stars on the Boston Red Sox, but even he’s starting to get frustrated with the direction that they’re going. In his first media availability for spring training, Devers didn’t hold back.
Devers was asked about what the team needs to do in order to improve and compete at the highest level. He directly his comments towards management, saying, “They need to make an adjustment to help us players to be in a better position to win. Everybody in this organization wants to win, and we as players want to win, and I think they need to make an adjustment to help us win. Everybody knows what we need. You know what we need, and they know what we need. Everybody who knows the organization or knows the game knows what we need.”
Most of this is in regard to the Red Sox having an awfully quiet offseason. Their starting pitching has been one of their largest weaknesses lately, but the team really didn’t address the hole during the offseason. This is while there were bigger names in the open market such as Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. In fact, both of those guys arere still available as we speak, yet Boston has veered away.
Rafael Devers Is Saying What All Red Sox Fans Feel
What’s confusing is that Boston isn’t just one piece away from contending. They were towards the bottom of the American League East standings a season ago. Meanwhile, the other teams that were already ahead of them such as the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees, have went out and upgraded their rosters. Boston has also missed the postseason in four of their last five years, simultaneously winning just 78 games in each of the last two seasons.
The Red Sox need help, and Devers is attempting to wake everybody up and make them realize that this roster has to improve. I’m sure it doesn’t sit well that the organization shipped away Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers a few years ago either. Bottom line, Devers is just one of the many that are frustrated with the team.
