Saturday’s Showdown Saw Two Drivers Continue Momentum Into The Championship 4

Grant Enfinger doubled up this weekend at Homestead-Miami with his second-straight playoff and season win. As for Austin Hill, the Georgia native was able to secure his fourth win of the season and lock himself into the Championship Four in Phoenix.

For Enfinger, his win didn’t come without any battles during the race, suffering contact at the beginning of Stage #3.

Fortunately for the Alabama native, the damage was not severe. But it did create a bit of a complicated pit strategy for the #9 team.

Fuel strategy became a factor and three cars ran out of fuel on the last lap including Layne Riggs, who came on late in Stage 3 as being a potential suitor for Enfinger’s lead.

For the early part of the race, Corey Heim seemed to be the strongest of the bunch. But Enfinger stayed consistent and was keeping pace towards the front all day to allow him to secure the win.

The major storyline coming out of the matinee Truck race is the incident with ThorSport driver Conner Jones.

Early in Stage 3, Jones would nudge Matt Mills into the wall, resulting in flames pouring out of the back of Mills’ #42 Silverado.

Mills would be transported following the incident to a local medical facility and is still being cared to but fortunately the driver of the #42 came out of the car.

As for Jones, the move was quite an aggressive one, resulting in a two lap penalty for the youngster, but it was definitely the right call.

While Jones put out the apology to Mills, it will be interesting to see where this story goes as Jones has had his fair share of run ins this season.

On the Xfinity side of things, Austin Hill ran a similar race to Enfinger in the way he won.

Early in the race, Chandler Smith had good pace through the first stage, but shuffled back a bit later on.

Cole Custer seemed to have the most consistent car of the weekend, staying up front for the entirety of the afternoon.

But Hill was able to capitalize on pit strategy to capture the win.

Hill has gotten better on the intermediates, but consistency is key for the driver of the #21.
